Here, learn some simple ways to give yourself more storage space. Home improvement expert James Young has the DIY Basics to adding wire shelving in your closets.
Steps:1. Measure the depth and length of your closet to determine the size shelving you need (figure A). 2. Install the horizontal track (figure B). It should be placed as high as possible and attached to studs for strength. Use a level to make sure the track is straight. 3. Measure down from the track to the point where your lower shelf will be (figure C). This measurement should be the minimum length of the vertical standard.
4. Cut the standards by using a hack saw (figure D). Smooth the rough edges with a medal file (figure E).
5. Attach standards to the horizontal track (figure F). Dont hang more than 24 inches apart and do not secure the standards until you have fit the shelves in place.6. Use bolt cutters to cut shelving and cover ends with plastic tips (figure G).
7. A bracket is needed for every point where the shelf touches the vertical standard.8. The hooks on the wide end of the bracket slide in to the slots on the standard and snap in to place (figure H) 9. Secure each standard to the wall with screws. You're finished (figure I)!
